Stoljecima je Karlov most bio jedini praski most,sagradjen po nalogu Karla IV,u 14.stoljecu.Trijumf je to gotickog gradjevinarstva.
Bio je vise od pukog prijelaza preko rijeke,izlozene su tu i glave protestanata smaknutih 1620.na Starogradskom trgu,kasnije je uljepsan baroknim kipovima,medju njima i skulpturom sv.Ivana Nepomuka.
